Ubuntu 24.04.2 no wifi

Installed using iso, wifi does not accept my password!?. Did not have this problem with 24.04.1

Does what you type get echoed and you can see what you’re typing? Sometimes a Caps Lock or Num Lock key default is different.Sometimes an external keyboard might cause the leds indicating Caps Lock/Num Lock state get out of sync, so the lights are different on the laptop and external keyboard.

Does the system have a make and model?
What Wi-Fi chip?
Do you see your wireless network OK?

Details please…

here I go, same Laptop printers and hardware 3 years old using Ubuntu all this time. Up until I installed Ubuntu 24.04.1 no wifi issues. Today I fresh installed 24.04.2 and from the beginning during install I could not connect to wifi so I installed without internet. I prefer to show password so I don’t make a mistake with upper and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols. I even did forget wifi on my iPhone and was still able to reconnect with same password. How can this be a problem with my systems wifi chip if it worked with 24.04.1. My mistake I believe is doing a fresh install of the new Ubuntu 24.04.2 iso. Anyway I had to move my desk with all my stuff to another room so I could use my ethernet cable from my modem.

Ubuntu 24.04 64 bit
HP Pavillion Gaming Laptop 16 inch
32 GB ram 500 GB SSD Nvme
Intel 10th generation i5 4 cores 4 threads. Intel UHD graphics Nvidia GTX 1650
can’t locate any info on the wifi chip.

Yes wifi network is listed at the top, just won’t accept password. I only knew how to find wifi chip info on Windows, do not see it in about system anywhere.

In the terminal run this command and post the output here please:
lspci | grep -i wireless

lspci | grep -i wireless
04:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8822CE 802.11ac PCIe Wireless Network Adapter

Also I am dual booting with Windows 11 24H2 and when I booted into Windows wifi auto connected so I am at a loss as to what 24.04.2 iso did during install.

Make sure you the wifi router you trying to sign into is your own and not some neighbor’s. Quite often when I power up, I get a popup message to enter my password to logon. Upon closer inspection, it turns out to be a neighbor’s wifi router/access point.

him610 I agree with you, however my wifi username is “Gort”. I logged into my router years ago and changed it and the password so that my kids and grandchildren could login in easily.

Something that you can try is to enter the password in the edit window of the wifi configuration. You may get to it by going to the network configuration, clicking on the configuration for that connection, and going to the “Security” tab.

@wgarcia’s suggestion is a good one. Failing that, you could use nmcli on the command line. Something like nmcli device wifi connect Gort password your-password-here. I’m assuming that when you say your “wifi username” is Gort, you mean your Access Point’s SSID. I don’t know your password, so you have to fill out your-password-here with that.

nmcli device wifi connect Gort with password does not connect. Going to close this thread and remove Ubuntu from dual booting with Windows 11, at least wifi works with Windows, sorry but this is just to aggravating for me.

That’s not what I said:

Maybe what you said above was shorthand? Also if it’s “gort” and not “Gort” that will likely not work.

Still, the better advice is to use the GUI suggested above:

Did you try that?

Called my provider, there is a problem with my modem. They are replacing my modem this coming Thursday March 6th and it will be an upgrade to fiber optic. Hopefully this will resolve my wifi problem?

PS: how to I mark this thread as solved. Discourse is different from the old forum.

That’s most likely your problem. As I always like to say: Linux is great, but it can’t fix broken.

You seem to have marked this post as a solution by clicking the check box which changes the appearance of that check box to a green background and added the word “Solution” next to it:

You’ll also notice at the bottom of the post list, there’s a note saying that the topic will close soon. This is what happens when you mark a solution: it schedules the closing of the topic:

So you see you don’t need to do much at all!

Hello Gort,
Please let us know if the new modem fixes the problem. I have a similar issue from the 24.04.2 upgrade and the 8821 wireless card.
Thank you.

Different card, so please create good idea creating a new topic.
