Will Ubuntu 18.04 LTS use the update feature built into GNOME/Ubuntu Software or will it still use the Update Manager? Bit confusing that Software has Update and nothing comes up as that has been disabled.

Agreed, I think evaluating moving the built-in Software updater makes some sense.
I swear this was discussed before and I see one possible blocker being release upgrades?
I could be wrong, but I thought other GNOME Shell based distros are updated via Software between versions.
