What I’ve Tried:

Tried to create a Live Boot USB 128 GB SanDisk Duo, Not sure if it is correctly formatted, nor whether it actually attempted to boot from it. (Tried rapidly pressing F12 key while POST until blank screen) Haven’t repeated with other keys like Esc.

Similar issues have been reported.

Pressing Esc repeatedly while booting got into GRUB version 2.2. Please advise on what to try from here…

Was able to boot from Lambda Recovery bootable USB, Lambda GUI shows up. So I believe we have access to the 22.04 that was initially installed in the system back in 2023 (when it was built/purchased).

Reinstalling 22.04 as I type…

22.04 installed with 3rd party drivers option checked.

System up and running.

Ran the two lines twice:
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade

2nd time update said there were 44 packages available
but upgrade said 0 of 44 were installed because they were related to Pro subscription which it doesn’t have.

Did not opt for 24.04 LTS update

Downloaded and installed “Allow Locked Remote Desktop” GNOME extension. My son did ask/express concern about it’s safety/security?

Thanks for your patience if you’ve read this far!

If you are really interested in security you should definitely turn on pro as well to get the extra security patches for ~25000 packages in universe, pro is completely free for up to 5 machines…

Thank you. I will research this. I was under the impression that since this was a work computer it only qualified for a paid subscription.

And thank you for reading! We were both VERY worried. He just started there officially on the 2nd, bricking such an expensive build. Sadly the machine was likely being stored as nobody preferred to use it. (My son noted his boss helped him set it up, and the hope being he could remote into it from his apartment, sans Team Viewer).

Happily he was able to remote in. I helped him set up remote access to the PC I just built here at home running Windows 11 Pro, but the ethernet seems to disconnect when it sleeps, so I’d have to wake it up every time for him to use it. It also is a fraction of that computer’s specs, (I pretty much use it for web/forum browsing), as well as far away here in the Los Angeles area.

The option to check for and apply updates was chosen. So I was amazed at how many updates the sudo apt update command showed. I guess it is some sort of misunderstanding on my part…
