This isnt the Loco for my area but

I’m going to join it anyways. Lol.
I’m actually in Michigan and since it looks like it was deactivated I want to join this one so I can see how a Loco works. Then if I think I can pull it off I want to bring back or start a new one for Michigan. There was lots of Locos a few years ago and now they are so sparse.
I started my foray into Linux with Ubuntu 10.04 and did the distro hop thing for 14 yrs. Now, I have finally settled in with 24.04 and not looking to hop anymore.
So what does the AZ Loco do and how can I get involved and help out?

Just approved your request for membership. You can see what we do by looking at the posting “Upcoming Events for AZLOCO”. Most of our members are concentrated in the Phoenix metropolitan area and as a result most of the events take place there. When the Covid 19 pandemic struck we moved to on line events to remain active. The sole exception to this is the events held in Sierra Vista where I am located. We have held and continue to hold physical events. Discussion on a return to physical events is on going.
There is a new LoCo Community Council (elected in January 2024 I believe). They held their first meeting on 09 February but have failed to accomplish too much since.
We do have and on line Workshop this Saturday (20 July) on Big Blue Button, https://bbb.azloco.net/. There is nothing to download. Just sign in with your name or Nick and start chatting. It runs from 1000-1600 MST. There is also a Team Meeting on Sunday (21 July) on irc.Libera.chat. The room is #ubuntu-us-az. It runs from 2100-2130 MST. No daylight savings time in Arizona. I will be sending you some information on websites.

Awesome and thank you!
Im planning on crashing the Saturday event if I’m allowed to. Lol.
I did find out that the Michigan LoCo’s lead up here recently passed away a few months ago. The LoCo did a lot of cross over with the mug (Michigan Users Group) that isnt necessarily centered around Ubuntu but rather for Linux in general. I’ve been talking with a couple of the admins on irc and they seem to be willing to let me take the reigns of the LoCo.
Since I’ve never done anything like this before I will probably be asking a lot of questions about the way you operate the LoCo.
I remember a few years back the LoCo’s seemed like they were the big draw to the community. I would love to see that make a comeback.

Everyone is welcome at any and all of our events. Feel free to ask and or contribute. There are two LUGs that AZLOCO partners with at Installation festivals, the Phoenix Linux User Group (PLUG) and the Cochise Linux User Group (CLUG). The later is mine in Sierra Vista, AZ. We would be very happy to provide you with any assistance that we can.
