Would it help de-fragment configuration by putting a ‘Software & Updates’ tab somewhere in ‘Settings’ rather than as a standalone setting?
Absolutely agree with this suggestion. It will be much better for user experience.
I think that Ubuntu Software is intended to serve as the hub for installing software, and Ubuntu Software provides a link to Software & Updates. (With that said, I see the point with the suggestion. Unity’s System Settings does have a Software & Updates icon.)
Only if that only occurs for Ubuntu - you’d find if you looked, that other flavours also use this package
