I downloaded snapshot2 via BitTorrent, but the ubuntu amd64 version is getting “not authorized to use with this tracker”, so I’m not doing any seeding. The kubuntu/amd64 and ubuntu/arm84 versions, which I also downloaded, are fine. Since one reason for doing snapshots is to flush out glitches in the release process like this it seems I ought to report this, but I don’t know where or how I should do that, it’s not a bug in any of the ubuntu packages.
Moved to Pre-Release Discussion where you are more likely to get a response.
Thanks.
Also download from link suggested in Download links for Ubuntu Desktop amd64 | Ubuntu QA
is unsuccessful https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20250623/questing-desktop-amd64.iso
While the download from Ubuntu 25.10 (Questing Quokka) is ok.
i’m writing from system installed from this ISO.
I’m not having a problem with downloading, it ran fine; the problem is because the tracker is misconfigured, I’m not able to give back by seeding the torrent. This seems to be breakage in the release process; after putting the isos and the iso.torrent files on cdimage.ubuntu,com, the tracker needs to get notified that these are valid files to be sharing. Somehow in the release process this got omitted, and this is the problem I want to report, so it doesn’t happen at the final release and cause a fire drill.
Thanks for reporting this. Just letting you know that we’ll see to investigate that and understand what happened.
That’s expected and the right behavior.
The former link is to download those ISOs before the snapshot is released. After the release, it’s expected that the former link will 404 and Ubuntu 25.10 (Questing Quokka) will be the way to go.
So nothing to do there. But thanks a bunch for reported and taking the time to test it. Means a lot!
Hi, thanks for taking the time to test our snapshots - your feedback is really valuable.
Huh, that’s a new - I have never seen this one before. It works fine for me. Can you tell me how can I reproduce what you’re reporting, please?
Apologies, I don’t fully follow - which tracker do you think is misconfigured? Is this also a problem with snapshot 1 or let’s the the Plucky release? I don’t think we did anything differently from either.
Let us know and we can take it from there. Thanks again!
To reproduce, have transmission-cli installed, then
$ wget https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/releases/questing/snapshot-2/ubuntu-25.10-snapshot2-desktop-amd64.iso.torrent
$ transmission-cli ubuntu-25.10-snapshot2-desktop-amd64.iso.torrent
The download will start, but the message
Tracker gave an error:: Requested download is not authorized for use with this tracker.
will appear (over and over) in the terminal.
According to transmission-show the tracker named in the .torrent is https://torrent.ubuntu.com/announce . I believe the problem is the torrent.ubuntu.com server doesn’t have this file registered, for example trying to find out how many peers are available with
$ transmission-show -s ubuntu-25.10-snapshot2-desktop-amd64.iso.torrent
returns
https://torrent.ubuntu.com/scrape?info_hash=]}Ui Q … no match
snapshot1-amd64 was fine, and other variants of snapshot2 I tried (Kubuntu, ubuntu arm64) are also fine.
FWIW, snapshot3 ubuntu amd64 torrent worked fine for me.
Great, thanks a bunch for confirming. Looks like an infra issue or a glitch with snapshot 2. But good to know the tooling in place is working fine - thanks for testing snapshot 3.
