I am trying this latest technical support option for ubuntu - which seems like the latest of many iteration over the years, and by far the most difficult to access; congratulations. Only the most persistent will get through!
I use Ubuntu desktop, version 24.04.2 LTS with an AMD Ryzen CPU, a NVIDIA gpu, Gnome version 46, and kernel Linux 6.14.0-27-generic
A couple of days ago, when I booted the PC, the login prompt was gone! There was just the default Ubuntu purpleish orange background. I found that the prompt had moved to my second monitor, which I do not normally turn on unless needed. I have confirmed that the user-level Settings shows my primary display to be the one intended; a 24-inch Acer Technologies 1920 x 1080 monitor. The secondary, an old Samsung 28" 1366 x 758 TV screen, is normally only used if I am watching a video - but now it is also necessary to turn it on to log in.
I cannot find mention of this ailment online - here or anywhere. I certainly did not intend to move the login prompt to the second screen and I have no idea how to move it back. I do not know what I may have done to cause the move at all. I have tried switching to mirror monitor and back, and switching which monitor is primary and back; but of course these are USER preferences, and the login prompt happens before I am logged in (though I am the only user).
I have disabled login prompt for now; no login required, but of course I still have to login on reboot.
