Scaling issue with 4K external monitor (Lubuntu 24.04.2 LTS)

Hello everyone,

I’m seeking assistance with a display scaling issue on my Lubuntu 24.04.2 installation.

My setup:

Laptop: DELL Latitude 7285

  • Processor: Intel® Core™ i7 i7-7Y75

  • Type: Hybrid (2-in-1)

  • Screen Size: 31.2 cm (12.3") Touchscreen

  • RAM: 16 GB LPDDR3-SDRAM

  • Storage: 512 GB SSD

  • Wireless: Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac)

  • External Monitor: Lenovo L28u-30 (4K resolution capable)

  • Operating System: Lubuntu 24.04.2

The Problem:

I’m experiencing difficulty achieving proper scaling when using my Lenovo L28u-30 4K monitor in a dual-monitor setup with my Dell Latitude 7285.

Currently, the maximum resolution I can get on the Lenovo L28u-30 is 2K (2560x1440), which seems to be mirroring the resolution of my Dell Latitude 7285’s internal display. Even if I turn off the laptop’s screen, the external monitor remains capped at 2K.

When I attempt to set the external monitor to its native 4K resolution (3840x2160), everything on the screen becomes too small to be usable. I need a solution for proper display scaling to make the 4K resolution viable.

I recall seeing a similar discussion on the old Lubuntu discourse (https://discourse.lubuntu.me/t/help-scaling-the-desktop-on-lubuntu/4810?page=2 2), but I’m unable to access that specific thread.

Any guidance or suggestions on how to effectively scale the desktop on Lubuntu 24.04.2 for a 4K external monitor would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help!
