Scale testing LXD

Hi all,

I was wondering if we have any published numbers on scale testing LXD in terms of maximum amount of VMs in a LXD network – specifically OVN based LXD networks. I foresee the answer is going to be “it depends”, as LXD and OVN both maintain their own databases and their performance is also dependent on the compute/network setup. But any info on testing already done around this for reference would be greatly appreciated – in particular the database components LXD itself uses (raft, ovsdb, etc.) and their scalability.

You’re correct, it depends on a lot of factors.

I don’t think there’s been any particular scale testing at this time, but it is something we’ve been thinking about.

In general the historical recommendations for LXD scale itself is max 50-70 members (i.e one rack).
