Ubuntu Cinnamon 24.04 LTS, I think it is Gnome? Recently installed Cinnamon on a Acer Apire V3 24 gig ram and 1 tb ssd. I recently replaced the router to a Netgear BE17000. The printer stopped working, however I can see it in the “connected devices” in the router software. The printer is connected to the router via a Ethernet cable at the IP address of 192.168.1.37. The printer is a Brother MFC-J985DW. When i go to see the printers, it says that none are configured? The printer works, because I can print from my Windows 11 laptop. Please help me configure my printer in Cinnamon.
I have been getting an error message that says that there has been an error and it is asking to send a report. Every time it has asked to send it I tell it to send the report. I don’t know if this is related to the printer issue or not? This time while on the computer, I have not received any new error notifications, so I can’t attach a picture of the message. I will attach a picture the next time I get the message? Maybe It was fixed via the reports I sent? I have checked for software updates and it tells me that everything is up to date? I appreciated everyone’s help.
That is not helpful, after you click on “report problem” there is usually a second message window where you can expand details, a screenshot with the expanded details might be more informative…
Cinnamon is the desktop environment on your installation.
If you click on Menu at the bottom left and then on Administration in the resultant menu is there an entry for Printers? If so click on that and there may be an entry for your printer and all you would need to do is right click on the icon and enable the printer. If nothing shows there should be an option to Add Printer.
After clicking "report problem " there is NO second page. The popup just disappears. When I try to “ADD” the printer, my Brother printer is NOT listed. Brother printers are listed but so far I have not found a driver that works with my MFC-J985DW.
Ubuntu does not need any drivers for printers normally, it defaults to driverless printing since a few releases, you should just be able to add your printer as new network printer and be done (the brothers are usually supporting “AirPrinting” which operates completely driverless)
If you can not find your printer it indicates rather a network problem (might be that some component in your network does block zeroconf/avahi packets which is used for advertising by network printers), can you ping the printer from a terminal with:
I also reset my router, but everything is still the same. I have recently upgraded my router to a Netgear BE17000 router, but like I said I can see the printer in the router software under the connected devices tab.
