Pipewire not seeing same inputs and outputs as JACK did on USB audio interface

I’m running Ubuntu Studio, have just upgraded to 25.04 from 24.04 - this has forced me to move from the JACK/Pulseaudio config to Pipewire only. I have an SSL Big6 USB audio interface which has 16 ins and 16 outs.

Since moving to Pipewire if I look at the patchbay in Carla it shows 15 inputs, 15 aux inputs and 15 outputs. This isn’t correct and is different to what was seen previously in Ubuntu 24.04 using Jack/Pulseaudio which, correctly, showed 16 inputs and 16 outputs on the Big6.

Is this a config issue with Pipewire? Is there some other setup I need to do in pipewire to make it understand the inputs and outputs on the interface? Is Carla the best place to see the ins and outs on the USB interface?

Thanks in advance.

Try looking at Patchance and qpwgraph and see what they say. I expect qpwgraph to have much more information as it’s made for Pipewire, whereas Patchance and Carla are made specifically for JACK.

Thanks for this eeickmeyer, it didn’t so much solve my problem as made it clear to me how unobservant I was!

Pipewire is indeed showing 16 ins and outs, but it’s numbering them from 0, I was looking at 15 and wondering what had happened to 16 when what’s actually happened is the channel 1 is now channel 0. All channels showing and working fine, just numbered slightly differently!

Thanks again for the heads up about Patchance and qpwgraph, that was really helpful.
