Noble Numbat images now use IMDSv2 by default

Noble Numbat development images launch with IMDSv2 enabled by default starting from serial 20240218. If your application uses an updated AWS SDK (or uses the CLI directly), then no action should be needed on your end to adopt this when migrating to Noble.

This change was made to increase the security of instance metadata requests. For an in-depth look at the differences between version 1 and 2, see this blog post.

Note that similar changes are planned for <24.04, but those will be made at a later date. Watch this post for more details as those plans solidify.

It seems you recently made IMDSv2 the default for Jammy Jellyfish images, can you confirm that date?

the first serial with imdsv2 would have been 20240720. however, we’ve since reverted the change (active from 20240802 on). this is intended to be a temporary revert, but we will have an announcement with better lead time to allow end users to react better. apologies for any issues this might have caused for you!
