AFAICT there’s no plain “rustc” package or binary in Oracular. Only the various rust-1.80 etc. Is that the plan going forward or is it temporary? update-alternatives?

This is temporary, we’re changing the way the Rust toolchain is packaged to a model similar to other language toolchains, with versioned packages and a lighter rust-defaults source package that builds rustc that will point to whichever version is the default. rust-defaults is in oracular-proposed, and still needs to migrate. The removal of the existing packages was one of the necessary steps for that migration (the rest of the blockers can be seen at excuses... ).

Do you know if Debian will adopt this also, or will this be a delta thing?
As of now it is a Ubuntu delta.
