PROBLEM:
No printing while the system displays the “Printing completed” message.
CONDITIONS:
– Systems: 2 x Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS + Puppy Linux BookwormPup64 10.0.6
– Machines: Dell Optiplex 790, Dell Inc. Inspiron 15 3520
– Printer: Samsung Xpress M2026W
– Driver (installed): uld_V1.00.39_01.17
– Diode indicates that data is being received by the printer
– The printer does not even try to pick up any paper at all
– CUPS reinstalled
– The printer still prints information about itself on the paper (remaining toner: 65%)
QUESTION:
What do I need to do to get the printer to start printing documents again?
Please review the contents of /var/log/cups/error_log for clues.
If you need help understanding the contents of the log, show us the output.
If the log is empty, or only contains a generic message that’s unrelated (Printer drivers are deprecated and will stop working in a future version of CUPS), then test printing from a different OS to rule out a problem at the printer end.
