Multipass Instances Stuck in Unknown State upon upgrading to MacOS Sequoia 15.2

Hi All I can’t use my multipass instances anymore. Was wondering if anyone could help.

Kind Regards

Hi @cosmicant, do you happen to be running on an M4? If so, you could be experiencing this issue. I would expect the end state to be stopped then, but it would be good to know if there are different manifestations.

If you are not on an M4, please have a look at this troubleshooting recipe and, if that still does not help, please open a new issue on GitHub, filling in the details in the form, please.

Yes I am on an M4. Is there a solution to this issue?

Hi @cosmicant, there is no solution yet and the final fix will need to come from upstream QEMU. That said, I have prepared a couple of packages that attempt to workaround the issue.

If you want to try those and provide feedback, along with your original observations of VMs in unknown state, that would be helpful. You can find all the relevant info on the GitHub ticket.

New error after installing your package-

launch failed: The following errors occurred:
qemu-system-aarch64: VCPU supports less PA bits (36) than requested by the memory map (40)

You need to scroll to find the updated package.

I have now added it to the issue description to make it easier for people to find.

Forgive me for not understanding the work around but how do I actually get qemu to use the -cortex-a57 cpu in multipass?

Its working now. Thank You!
