In Unity I can minimize an open window, by click on the icon in the starter.
As far I remember, it’s not in the default settings, but I can change it somewhere.
In Ubuntu 18.04 with Gnome 3 I can not find this option.
It’s somehow annoying, if I need to move up the mouse to click on the small minimize button in the title-bar.

Dash to Dock includes that feature.
