Looking for a Image Viewer app with persistent zoom preference

Ubuntu Version:

24.04.2 LTS

Desktop Environment (if applicable):

Gnome

Problem Description:

I’m looking for an Image Viewer App that allows paging through a directory of images and also allows a zoom level to be selected that will persist through the paging. I don’t need some fancy slideshow creator app, just a simple image viewer that does what I want.

What I’ve Tried:

I have tried both Image Viewer and Shotwell, which are offered by the system. Both allow changing the zoom but only for the one active image. If I click the arrow for next or previous image, the zoom on that image is whatever the program decided was right.

gthumb will do what you want.
Hamburger icon->Preferences->Viewer->After loading an image:Keep previous zoom

If the zoomed image is bigger that the current view (the viewport as it were), you’ll probably want uncheck the “Reset scrollbar positions” box so that the viewport doesn’t reset to the upper right of the next zoomed image you switch to.

Thank you. Another user suggested phototonic, but I like gthumb better! Also thanks for your detailed instructions.
