Are there any GUI-based email readers that can know about the mbox format and only reads local mail from /var/spool/mail/ as the inbox?
Looking to get cron set up to do local log monitoring.
Evolution, thunderbird and claws-mail come to mind immediately …

I need it to be easy to set up and easy to use.
Which is more compatible with what I’m wanting to do, mail-claws or qmail?
And will I need to do thing’s inside the fstab?
I have never used qmail, but AFAIK claws comes up with a setup wizard on first start and you can just select “Local mbox file” in there …
(I personally use evolution since +15y and have only looked briefly at the others every now and then)

It’s of great importance for me to say I’m using the minimal install of Lubuntu 24.04 Desktop version, mainly due to “no snaps”.
It seems to be set up to allow a few server stuff.
Well, if minimalism is a goal evolution is likely way to heavyweight here, it is an all-in-one thingie with calendar, task handling, addressbook etc and comes with a bunch of back-end tools permanently running in the background
No snaps rules out thunderbird (which, in 24.04 switched to a snap if you want the ubuntu-supported version)

Sounds like Claws is my go-to choice at least for the time being.
Heavyweight on a semi-old Windows 7 machine seems to be requiring more minimal as the years go by.
