J-P Nurmi | Membership Application

Hi all, I’m J-P from the Ubuntu Desktop team. I’d like to apply for Ubuntu Membership.

I started contributing to the new Ubuntu Desktop Installer in March 2021 when I found out that Canonical was working on a new Flutter-based installer. I joined the desktop team half a year later, and the desktop installer has been one of my main focus areas since then.

I’m part of the small but vibrant Ubuntu Flutter Community and an active contributor to many community-driven projects, such as Yaru Widgets. I also enjoy contributing to Flutter for Linux and that way improving all Flutter apps on Ubuntu. There’s not much to see on my LP account because most of my activity is on GitHub.

JP is working on the new installer impacting the first core user experience on Ubuntu. His contribution is valuable to the community as a whole. Even if he started relatively recently in the Ubuntu community, he is listening, trying to make the right things for the end user experience.

Finally, this graphical installer is used in Windows Subsystem for Linux (ex “bash on Windows”), which is another indirect impart of his involvement in the community.

I thus endorse JP to become an official Ubuntu Member. Continue in that direction JP!

I collaborated with J-P on the WSL OOBE and the new Flutter-based Desktop Installer. J-P’s contribution to Flutter on Linux is major. the support of Flutter on Ubuntu wouldn’t be what it is today without him.

He’s always very involved in the projects he is contributing to, willing to help others and bringing new ideas. The discussions we’ve had on bug reports for example are always constructive and respectful.

I fully endorse his application as an Ubuntu Member, and it would definitely be a well-deserved recognition of his contributions.

Oh jpnurmi :frowning:
A few hours notice just is in-sufficient for the team to be aware of the intent. Please set a future time. Please bear in mind that 12:00 UTC is very very early for those of us in the West - Arising at 5 AM has it’s difficulties. That said, we have done so before and will so again. Just saying.

I thought so. Since the 1st Thursday meetings are already today I picked the next option which was 3rd Wednesday in two weeks but I don’t mind waiting for the 1st Thursday of April. I’ll re-add myself tomorrow.

I’ve worked with J-P on the new Ubuntu Desktop installer. His technical work is excellent, he’s working with the subiquity team and actively engaged with the community, replying to report and working with flavor to ensure the new installer is usable for them. Strong +1 for Ubuntu Membership for me without doubt.
