How to Determine which version is best for me?

Hello all,
Newbie to Linux world and I have several old HP servers I want to install ubuntu on ( tired of windows) However I realized very quickly that there are many versions releases etc that I know nothing about. I would like to start out with one server HP Proliant DL380G5 which I cannot find info on which version is compatible and what drivers BIOS etc is needed to even start. If anyone has installed the later versions on similar i would greatly appreciate help.
Goal to install OS that can be used with networking, domain control etc like an all in one similar to windows small business. Thanks in advance.

I’ve moved this to the https://community.ubuntu.com/c/support-help-requests category because this site isn’t designed to take tech support questions. Sorry. I’d recommend using one of the official support channels listed on the https://community.ubuntu.com/t/finding-help/712 page.

The short answer for new desktop hardware is: Plug in a keyboard and monitor, boot an Ubuntu LiveUSB, and find out if the hardware works out-of-the-box or not. It’s free. Server hardware can be a little trickier simply because Linux servers tend to run headless - that’s a training-and-skills issue (if Desktop runs on your server hardware, that might ease your learning curve a bit). Nevertheless, lots of folks in our help forums have lots of experience with this kind of experiment, so fee free to jump in there and ask.
