I’m new at this Discourse method of Ubuntu forums, and I don’t understand the relationship with AskUbuntu and Ubuntu One, and I don’t know if there are others. Do I only have one account and login-name-and-password, etc.?
I’m sorry if I’ve missed the “orientation” info; you can just point me to it and I’ll go study it.

Thanks, @rubi1200. This solved the initial/main problem. I actually went there (“click on your avatar upper right >> in the resulting menu is a people icon (profile)” ) but I did not notice the “people icon” because I was focused on what appeared to me to be a sub-menu, a long list of earned badges etc. .
I’m again a victim of a well-known phenomenon named “target fixation”, in which e.g. Air Force pilots in an air-to-air battle fly into the ground because they are so intent on what’s directly in their focused attention (the enemy fighter) that they don’t notice that they will be unable to follow said fighter because their turn radius is too large and the arc of the current path intersects the ground.
So, I received not only the answer I requested, but also another valuable lesson.
