Hi there! I’m John and I was a SUSE user for many years, having migrated this last summer. I’d been meaning to do this for some years now, but not one but two online packages very nearly simultaneously announced that the only Linux distro they’d be supporting in future was Ubuntu, so I took this as a sign from above that I was meant to change. Therefore I have done.
Welcome and happy you are here.
Welcome to the world of Ubuntu!
I’ve tried openSUSE a few times and tried to add it to my list of go-to distros, but it just never really clicked for me for too long.
Welcome to Ubuntu. Your Linux experience will not go to waste, even if the distros do some things different, or have a different thought process!
My welcome too johngw -
Will not take you long to become acclimatized
-Enjoy-
I think the reason that I used OpenSUSE was that it was the first distro I used and that it was Linux that clicked. This was around the time that Ubuntu appeared and someone tried to persuade me to move. But I was just getting into writing my first scripts and I wasn’t in the mood for migrating that quickly.
And then there wasn’t a pressing reason to move.
seems reasonable to me. not everyone is into exploring other distros.
i started with SLS then went to Slackware and used it for years. when i finally retired i decided i did not want to work on so many system details, anymore, and put Ubuntu on my new laptop. eventually i found i liked Xubuntu more and switched to that around 16.04. i have played around with some others as well as some BSDs. still using Xubuntu. i’m at 20.04 and preparing for 24.04.
