I just want to wish everyone a Happy New Years! Thank you to everyone in the community who helped with testing and bug reports for the Ubuntu 21.04 and 21.10 releases. It’s hard to believe we’re just 3.5 months away from the Ubuntu 22.04 LTS release. So let’s make this next LTS release a great one!
2022 will be a great year for Linux in general in a lot of ways I think!
Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
GNOME 42 with libadwaita (for better theming and real dark mode, and more possibilities for developers) and lots of work on performance (also by Canonical, as you can read here), and tons of work under the hood
Steam Deck with grown up Proton
WINE 7
Wayland support all over the place
Nvidia with better Linux support
new kernels starting with 5.16 (with Rust support on horizon in summer)…
Feels like lots of things are melting together and Ubuntu will benefit from all of that. At least I’m excited!
