last week an update hit disco daily, where gnome-calculator, gnome-system-monitor, gnome-logs and gnome-characters .deb’s where exchanged with snaps - which is generally an awesome idea to receive the latest update of those apps!
Sadly those apps ship with the upstream icons and not with the Ubuntu/Yaru icons. We - especially our icon specialist @jaggers - spent a lot of time in the last cycle on making the new icons look good and providing a complete yaru/ubuntu icon grid look.
I understand that snap’s are the main focus of Canonical.
From the point of view of the yaru design team I wonder if it would be possible to “bake in” the Yaru icons into those snaps instead of the upstream ones since they really “ruin” the hard work we have done in the past/current cycle and additionally the Ubuntu dock default icon size is 48px but the new gnome icons are optimized for 2^n px (…16,32,64…). So the result is a really heavily blurred icon on the launcher. This does not happen with the Yaru icons because they are exported PNGs, optimized also for 48px.
This is the github issue https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/issues/1290
