Error mounting hard drive

Ubuntu Version:

Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS

Desktop Environment (if applicable):

Problem Description:

Hello there,
Firstly a quick apology from me because I am a beginner with Ubuntu and have limited knowledge using it.

I set up a dual boot with Ubuntu and Windows 10.
I recently installed a new hard disk that could work as a shared disk between the operating systems. Formatted as NTFS this worked fine for a couple of days and then all of a sudden it can no longer be mounted in Ubuntu. The error is: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock.
I’ve checked various forums and changed the mount settings to turn off User Settings Default but this doesn’t work either.

As a bit of background I had the same issue with an external USB hard disk which is what prompted me to buy a new hard disk and install it.

So if you anybody could guide me on how to get this working I’d be most grateful. Please note I am a beginner so if I need to provide more info I’ll need to know how to get that info (assuming terminal commands).

Thank you very much. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

What I’ve Tried:

Hello and welcome.

I do not use NTFS with linux myself. But there is another Thread which may provide a solution.

Thank you @g-schick that worked a treat!

For anybody else who’s hit this error enter the following in terminal -

echo 'blacklist ntfs3' | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/disable-ntfs3.conf

Then restart PC.
Thanks again, it’s much appreciated. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
