Element Snap doesn't start unless

Ubuntu Version:
24.04, 25.10

Desktop Environment (if applicable):
GNOME, Unity

Problem Description:
After installing Element and you want to start it a popup is shown that you have to run:

sudo snap connect element-desktop:password-manager-service

I can’t remember having that on previous releases of Ubuntu and Element versions and am not sure if this is a bug or just a security measure. So Element won’t fully start unless you copy/paste or type the above in the terminal.

I didn’t try it on other desktops so I can’t tell if that’s happening there too.

What changed was that this plug didn’t exist before; after the plug was added, a warning was added to Snap element-desktop, and Zenity is responsible for displaying it.

As @Kyuyrii mentioned, you should have gotten a popup that told you about this on first start, you can take a look at the launcher code locally under:

/snap/element-desktop/current/launcher

Did that popup not show up ? This would indeed be a bug …

EDIT: Heh, I’m, blind today, you mentioned the popup in the initial post … ignore me

Ah, i see. Thanks for the clarification.
