My primary reason for turning to Ubuntu is the fact that my Windows installation was not longer reliable on this old Dell Alienware system. This system has two Nvidia video cards plus on on-the-motherboard Intel 630 GPU.
My main purpose for this machine is running grid computing applications using BOINC, the manager which allocates system resources to programs written by engineers and scientists for various scientific applications.
One of these applications is Einstein which searches for weak astrophysical signals from spinning neutron stars. It uses CPUs and GPUs. Formerly when this machine ran Windows, many of the work units from Einstein utilized both CPU and GPU resources, some a combination of a CPU plus an Nvidia GPU and others a combination of a CPU and an Intel GPU.
In fact, another machine I have running Windows at present does receive work units needing the Intel GPU. However, work units coming to this Ubuntu machine never receive Intel CPU work.
This is due to the BOINC manager not requesting such for some reason. I have inquired whether this is a problem with the Linux version of BOINC but I have not yet received a definite answer.
So I must ask the Ubuntu community: does this 24.04 include a driver for the Intel 630 GPU? I have no idea where to go to find such information. Going to the Intel site is of no help as they primarily deal with Windows drivers. Any help would be appreciated.
