Problem Description:
Hi all, so I’ve been having an issue with my Huion Kamvas 13 gen3 display tablet on Ubuntu Studio. The tablet used to work just fine through a single usb-c to usb-c data cable, plugged in into my laptop which would normally provide enough power for it to work. Huion provides Linux drivers for the tablet, and it works on my desktop which also runs on Ubuntu Studio, but through their proprietary 3-in-1 cable (power+data+HDMI). At first I thought it was a secureboot conflict so I signed the drivers but still, nothing has changed. What I did then was to compare my two systems (laptop and desktop) and the only differences I can see are the drivers that Nvidia is using on each. I tested the cable and it must work, because before booting into the system the display is showing the lock screen, only to go into “No signal” - “Power Saving” as soon as I log in.
All of this happened after some system updates, but I can’t recall what was updated exactly.
Relevant System Information:
Laptop: Lenovo LOQ 15IRX9, Nvidia Geforce RTX 4050, intel i7-13650HX, 16GB memory.
Nvidia-smi driver version: 580.95.05

What I’ve Tried:
- On Windows the usb-c configuration works flawlessly (same laptop, dual-boot)
- 3-in-1 proprietary cable works on my laptop, but I can’t carry it around all the time
- System updates through Discovery
- lsusb sometimes doesn’t see the tablet
- Displaycal sometimes says it wasn’t able to load the calibration profile for the external screen (in this case the tablet) at startup
- Tried reinstalling their driver at their latest version from the Huion website
- Trying to change Nvidia driver will throw a bunch of errors saying it can’t be installed
- Signed the drivers in secureboot with MOK key
- Tried some… odd solutions such as to hold down the power button for 30 sec then rebooting
I have no clue as to where the problem lies and what I can do about it. The tablet used to work perfectly on both of my systems and I don’t wanna use Windows. I hope I can get some help!
