Desktop launcher works some but not all

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS new install
Gnome desktop, X11
followed these steps to create launcher

  1. opened Thunar and went to /usr/share/applications
  2. copy/paste Timeshift.desktop and Snaptics.desktop to desktop
  3. clicked Allow launching
    when clicked on the desktop, nothing happened, but it still works from Settings/Application
    right after install, it worked, but after awhile, stopped working. I also created UAD (Universal Android Debloater), it wasn’t working before, but now it’s working. Besides installing apps, the only other change is I changed display server to X11 instead of Wayland (to run devilspie2)

@soumyadghosh do you mean record in video how I created the launcher? if so can you suggest one app to do it? never done it before (save time searching the web)

No, I mean, the complete process you shared to reproduce, can you record it and share? Not on Gnome rn, that’s why that’d be helpful for debugging.

@soumyadghosh I tried few minutes ago the recording, it’s not intuitive, I’ll try again and post the recording here when I have it.

You’d rather want someone from the xfce team here, thunar is not gnome…

Definitely GNOME desktop, though, and that’s where the issue lies.

Agreed, this might be a problem with DING (Desktop Icons Next Generation), the extension that provides icons to the desktop.
