Community Team Updates 2022

Two weeks in this update - we’ve been busy and it’s crunch time for Jammy Jellyfish! As usual, if you want to chat about any of these items, start a topic in the Community category! :clock11:

Community Connections

  • Contacted IS about an issue with logging into the wiki reported by community members
  • Reached out to Orca screenreader testers on behalf of the Accessibility Guild
  • Coordinated with flavours for final assets for the new website section
  • Sent out revised mascot artwork to flavours
  • Worked with Launchpad team to find how many bug events the community created from 20.04 to 22.04
  • Attended meeting regarding cross-team engineering practices

Community Engagement

  • Sent initial batch of stickers to Impish Indri ISO testers
  • Met with Snapcrafters group to discuss future engagement plans
  • Biweekly sync with Data Platforms on community engagement, and additional chat about community events and conferences
  • Initial planning for Community Team stream with the server team in June

Events

Linux Application Summit

  • Helped with initial plans for Jammy Jellyfish release party at the Linux Application Summit
  • Advertised initial plans on Discourse, Twitter, and Discord
  • Ordered supplies for Ubuntu booth

Roadmap Sprint, Copenhagen

  • Got clearance to host a community dinner during the roadmap sprint
  • Posted call for dinner guests on Discourse
  • Proposed breakout sprints about community engagement and the community team for the sprint

DORS/CLUC

  • Committed to sponsorship and a booth for this event

Community Event Budgeting

  • Assessed current and projected spending for community events for 2022

  • Began draft of plenary session deck
  • Contacted Danish LoCo and representatives of Swedish LoCo regarding the community meetup day on May 7

DORS/CLUC

  • Began PO process for sponsorship

OSCAL 2022

  • Looked into sponsorship opportunities after suggestion from @elioqoshi

Community Event Budgeting

  • Discussed tentative bronze sponsorship for OSS - NA and the possibility of off-site events with the Austin office.

Ciao from Copenhagen! No, we aren’t confusing our languages - we’re in Denmark for our 22.10 roadmap sprint, and just arrived from the Linux Application Summit in Italy. Here’s what your friendly neighborhood community representative was up to last week.

Community Connections

  • Met Joseph from KDE Eco project at Linux App Summit, and will connect him with our Sustainability Resource Group
  • Continued to pursue status of bug affecting wiki.ubuntu.com log in
  • Escalated issue on behalf of localization team

Community Engagement

  • Connected with local users in Rovereto, including university students and LUG organizers who use Ubuntu to transition Windows users to Linux
  • Worked on draft of mental health panel proposal with Marie Nordin from Fedora
  • Connected with Regina King from GNOME

Events

Linux Application Summit

  • Wisely let local team member with balloon arch take the lead
  • Represented Ubuntu at our sponsorship booth and at sponsor’s dinner

Roadmap Sprint, Copenhagen

  • Completed draft of our plenary deck
  • Scheduled lightning talk on benefits of Ubuntu Membership
  • Created and sent out sign up sheet for Community Day in Roskilde/Copenhagen on May 7

DORS/CLUC

  • Sponsorship is confirmed! See us in Croatia later this month!

  • Considering reaching out for sponsorship opportunities and prices

  • Getting ready for SCaLE 19x! I’ll be there with @nhaines at booth 107 - stop and say hi if you’re going to be there! We’ll have some pins and stickers, including some retro stickers and maybe something special for this conference.
  • Helping @ilvipero - our newest awesome member of the Community Team - with planning for the Ubuntu Summit this fall in Prague!
  • Promoting our presence at DebConf and GUADEC on social media
  • Working on a long overdue blog post about the Ubuntu Community Fund
  • Usual housekeeping tasks (GDPR requests, written interview grading, etc.)
