Capturing video from old video camera question

Hi All,

This is for my Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS, Bought a generic USB to RCA video capture device from amazon.

Bus 001 Device 013: ID 534d:0021 MacroSilicon MS210x Video Grabber [EasierCAP]

I have it connected my old Sony HI8 camera.

I want to convert my old video cassette to a video file, before throwing away this old camera.

I have never tried this before. I searched and tried “Cheese” , but it keeps locking up and force quitting when I try recording.

Is there a better way to do this?

Once I get video files (.mp4?) of my old home movies, Going to throw away this old gear.
