I am preparing an updated Steam package for inclusion in Focal Fossa. It’s mostly a merge from the package in Debian Sid with some slight modifications.
Rules of engagement
This testing is only for Focal Fossa; feedback from earlier releases of Ubuntu is not required.
This PPA is temporary and will be deleted shortly.
I am interested in clean installs, upgrades from existing Steam installs and purge removals of the steam package.
I am also interested in feedback from anyone with Steam Contollers or supported VR devices.
Are some of the modifications adding Vulkan 32/64bit drivers and steam-devices?
If so, I love it. With Proton, you could say the majority of games on Steam can use Vulkan.
steam-devices is also a great choice to include by default. It is a requirement for supporting my DualShock 4 controller.
I did a clean install of “Steam installer” through Ubuntu Software.
The “Launch” button in Ubuntu Software does not work for “Steam installer”.
Launching Steam through the Overview works fine.
No apparent issues here. Upgrades from normal deb. Launches fine. Plays my installed games fine. Switches to Big Picture mode fine. Steam controller works without any problem.
Anything else specific to test?
Ubuntu Mate 20.04, upgraded from 19.10. Xorg.

I “fixed” it by removing the intel video drivers…
I had installed them in ubuntu (Mate) 19.10 to avoid videos tearing.
It seems to work without it on 20.04 (Mate again)
The remaining issue is the appindicator not showing the menu…
The issue was a segfault in iris_dri.so
I was not sure if I should bump this, or create a new topic, but I think its relevant here.
It was good the steam package was updated for focal, but over half a year has passed now and groovy will release soon, but its still the same packages in both focal and groovy.
The updated udev rules, and not redirecting stderr to a file a good additions also for Ubuntu in my opinion, and I have not checked all the other entries.
Steam from the groovy package is working for me and has for the last months, which is why I did not notice the steam package did not get any updates. (I noticed it when I could not launch steam yesterday, but that turned out to be a problem with the nvidia drivers I think, changing to 450 fixed it, and also going back to 455 steam still works)
I know this is late for groovy, but is there a chance for an updated steam package, maybe also packported for the LTS releases?
