Call for nominations: Matrix Council
We’re looking for motivated people that want to join the Matrix Council!
The Matrix Council is highest governance body of the Ubuntu Matrix project. They define the policies, the moderation guidelines, and appoint operators and defenders. For more information about this council, see Ubuntu Matrix Governance.
Who can apply
Anyone who is an Ubuntu Member can apply.
Who we are looking for
Matrix is becoming an important part of our community, so we would like to have a diverse council that represents the entire community, not just the people already on Matrix. We want to encourage people active on other platforms such as IRC and Discord to apply so they can bring their experience to the Ubuntu Matrix project.
- You show humanity, gentleness and kindness in your communication.
- You create a welcoming atmosphere.
- You want to invest time in the next two years to kickstart the Ubuntu Matrix project.
- You are willing to regularly meet with the other council members

How to apply
You can apply by sending your self-nomination to community-council@lists.ubuntu.com. In this email, please include the following.
- Your name
- Your Launchpad ID
- Whether you’re a Canonical employee
- A link to a page describing you and explaining why you want to join this council. This can be a Discourse post, a page on your personal website, or your page in the Ubuntu Wiki.
Nominations are now open and will close on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at 23:59 UTC. After that, the Community Council will review the submissions and will set up an election.
Please do not hesitate to share this post with anyone you think deserves to be on the Matrix Council.

- Sunday March 17th: voting starts
- Sunday March 31st, 23:59 UTC: voting ends
