I have a freash install of Ubuntu 24.04 installed. I noticed there is no way to ajust the brightness of my screen, there is no slider. is this a issue with this version of Ubuntu. Thank you
Don’t know. I’m still on 22.04. But perhaps install Tweaks?
A screen brightness slider is indeed in stock installs of Ubuntu 24.04.
So no, its not an issue with the version of Ubuntu.
It might be an issue with configuration changes you have made.
Or your hardware might be incompatible or faulty.
Or there might be other causes.
Or we might misunderstand your description.
Are you looking in the right place?
Another test: Try booting your install media. Enter the ‘Try Ubuntu’ environment. Look for the control in that Live environment.

I will do just that I don’t remember seeing the slider before I made a few changes. Thank you
Desktop ryzen 9 5600, 32 GB Ram, Aorus 450 mother board it’s a custom build
I did as suggested and booted from the meda, there’s no slider for the brightness. At least I know it’s not something I did with a few changes
I did look for a extension it worked but, it was slowing down my browser everytime I opened it, so I removed that ext
You’re trying to adjust brightness for an external display? As mentioned before by ian-weisser the missing brightness control may be caused by incompatibility. As far as I know many some external displays do not support controlling brightness by software. You may need to use the buttons on your external display to adjust brightness.
As asked by corradoventu please provide brand and model of your external display, too, so we can take a look on its specs.
Maybe I got something wrong but you installed a browser extension for controlling screen brightness? This should only be able to alter the brightness of browser windows or tabs but not your display brightness in hardware.

Normally, brightness control is only available on laptops, NOT on desktops.

There is software available (for example ddcutil) to change display brightness for external displays if they support brightness control using DDC.
