I have 2 separate, different SSD. On the first one I have a Windows (came with the laptop) and on second ssd (samsung 990 2T) I have installed Ubuntu 24 LTS. I read and followed the information here " https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/1fb9tnl/i_have_2_separate_different_ssd_on_the_first_one/ " I removed the windows SSD and put the new SSD for Ubuntu in the spare slot so I could put the windows SSD back in its origanal slot. I installed, booted, updated and added some of the apps. everything looked good…
reinstalled the windows ssd and booted to Ubuntu. did the grub update and rebooted to windows. bitlocker came up and after a few trys at bitlocker I got into windows everything seemed ok. restarted the laptop and it went right back to bitlocker after I selected the widows ssd . so now if/went I need to use windows I get bitlocked
any ideas on a fix?
I did this on my new ASUA ROG Strix G18 model G814JVR
Disclaimer: Apart from a brief test install of Windows 8 preview edition, I have not used Microsoft Windows since Win98.
Can you still boot from the Ubuntu drive and load Ubuntu? If you can do that then load into Ubuntu and run
sudo update-grub
Does Grub detect the Windows boot loader? Can you load into Windows using the Grub boot menu?
I do not understand what that statement means. Are you expecting BitLocker to automatically unlock the encrypted Windows drive? And it is not doing that? You are forced to put in a password to unlock the Windows drive?
In my ignorance I think that for BitLocker to automatically unlock an encrypted Windows drive Windows will need to take “ownership” of the Trusted Platform Module (TPM).
Does you machine have a TPM2 chip? Is the UEFI set to “clear TPM?”
so now if/went I need to use windows I get bitlockere or paste code here
This isn’t really a problem but the choices you made. I would not expect Grub to boot windows with bitlocker on and since Windows and Ubuntu are on different drives, you should be able to boot windows from the BIOS EFI menu so why would it matter if bitlocker was on/off? If you are unable to boot windows from the windows bootloader in the BIOS EFI menu, that is something you will need to check with microsoft suppport or a windows forum.
