Best practice for persistent hw addresses with macvlan

What is the current best practice for ensuring that hw addresses persist with containers? Our default profile only assigns storage, we then apply another profile to create the default network device and finally use an override to make it permanent. Is there a more elegant way?

LXD will configure a random persistent MAC address when each interface is first used, so unless you need explicit statically defined MAC addresses then you don’t need to do anything.

The volatile hwaddresses don’t always persist when you move the containers between hosts. I’ve seen them change during upgrades as well I think.

Changing during moving or upgrades would be a bug so please report it if you see that.

It does change during a copy though.

I’ll try and record next time it happens, thanks.
