Bad experience with snap firefox

I’ve been running ubuntu I think since Focal Fossa. I often copy paste terminal output into the firefox url bar to search for more context about the output.

Often a process will output in the format ^\S+:\s.* … like "Error: ". Firefox was interpreting this as a protocol handler and would ask me what program I wanted to open the non-existent protocol with, disrupting my workflow and annoying the heck out of me.

Someone from mozilla suggested I check if their version did the same thing so I removed the snap and installed firefox from their apt repo. They were right, I couldn’t reproduce the issue in their package.

Now I am stuck figuring out how to restore my firefox profile from the snap .mozilla directory backup I made.

I honestly thought the snap hate was overdone but I must admit this was a disappointing experience to say the least. Also it’s nice your forum has a dark mode now but please consider implementing the Sec-CH-Prefers-Color-Scheme response headers and functionality to auto select theme based on the client’s requested colour scheme.

Welcome to Ubuntu Discourse

Sorry to hear about your experience.

If you do not find an answer from one of our support volunteers, then consider filing a bug report with the maintainer of the snap version.

As far as the colour scheme is concerned, this is what currently exists on this Discourse.

For further clarification, start a new topic only about that in Site Feedback.

Thanks

I found this,certainly worth a read.
