Audio recording is really loud and distorted on Ubuntu

When I record audio on Ubuntu, the audio comes out really loud and distorted.
If you need an example, I’ll be happy to give you one.
The speakers are just fine.

Ubuntu Version:
Ubuntu 24.10 "Oracular Oriole

Desktop Environment (if applicable):
GNOME

Problem reproduction steps:
Record audio on Ubuntu using the microphone.
I imagine al ot of people’s quality will sound pretty good though.

Relevant System Information:
Hardware Model: Acer Aspire A315-23
Processor: AMD Athlon Silver 3050U with Radeon Graphics x 2
Memory: 8 GiB
Firmware Version: 1.15
OS Type: 64-bit
Windowing System: Wayland
Kernel Version: Linux 6.11.0-19-generic

What I’ve Tried:
I haven’t really tried anything

This is usually caused by the input volume being too high. Does it help to lower your microphone’s volume in GNOME settings? Or do you get loud distorted sound at any non-zero microphone volume?

thanks i have no idea why i didn’t try that
