Hello all!
I would like to put my name forward for the upcoming Ubuntu Membership Board election. As a relatively new and proud Ubuntu Member, I would be honored to join this very important and storied body.

About Me

For a bit of background, my name is Aaron Prisk and I am a Community Engineer here at Canonical. I have the great privilege of working with the incredible Ubuntu community every day in an effort to help support, grow and empower them to do what they do best. Here are a few of my more recent community contributions:

  • I’ve been a chair for the Ubuntu Summit the past two years and have organized various Ubuntu community events including the revival of UbuCon @ SCaLE and soon UbuCon Europe. :crossed_fingers:
  • Lead the effort behind the creation of The Ubuntu Community | Ubuntu and the upcoming Ubuntu Community Portal.
  • Have been working with community leaders on the revival of the Ubuntu LoCo program and the promotion of Ubuntu across the globe.
  • Rebuilt the ubucon.org site and have been working with community organizers on creating additional community event tooling and resources.
  • Currently working with Ubuntu Forums leadership on the migration of their community to the Ubuntu Discourse.

Why I’m running for the Membership Board

A major focus of mine has been to improve our community platforms and programs to ensure they are reliable, equitable and sustainable. If chosen for the Membership Board, I would love to help amplify the Membership program to the status I believe it deserves. I want the public to see the badge of Ubuntu Membership as being something of great value that they proudly display on their LinkedIn, Mastodon and across all their social channels.

Some key items I would like to focus if elected to the board would be:

  • Improve the visibility of the Membership program (See this topic for some context).
  • Updating the membership perk list with some new enticing rewards and incentives.
  • Improve Membership documentation (e.g. membership expectations, examples of exceptional achievement, application processes)
  • Start a campaign to regularly spotlight the current and new members in our community and their excellent contributions.

Aaron, I am so glad to see you put yourself forward for this. I think you’d be an amazing member of the board. Thank you for all of your help you have provided me in respect of the community. I am sure there are many who feel the same. Good luck with this application, I am sure you will be successful.

I would like to second @aaronprisk nomination.
He would make a valuable member and bring
enthusiasm to the board.
He is a true leader, quickly organized the
Ubuntu LoCo Program, which was out of date.
Now is current and larger than before.
This is only one of the many things he has brought
to Discourse.
