Yesterday's current daily live session did not connect to internet?

Ubuntu Version

26.10

Desktop Environment (if applicable)

MATE

Problem Description

Booted in live 26.10 iso and tried to check Firefox function and got “we could not reach the server” error . . . no internet connection with ethernet.

Relevant System Information

Today I downloaded a current daily of Ubuntu-MATE stonking and booted into the live session on this machine that has an ethernet connection and trying to test out Firefox it said, “no network connection” . . . clicking “enable networking” . . . did not.

I tried to search around to find where I might post this problem to see if this is known issue or needs a bug report . . . new system is a bit obtuse to this old timer . . . . Is this “Stonking” thread the place to begin or where should it be posted?? Please advise.

What I’ve Tried

I tried to “ping google” to check for system connectivity, but that didn’t get it. No internet connection, couldn’t file a bug report from the live session and couldn’t email a screenshot, etc.

I assume this is wrong then (given you talk about 26.10 lower down) ?

Note that 26.10 is still in development, we do have a pre-release category for discussing bugs of in-development releases …

Please note that development releases are not supported in the main Support and Help category.

@ogra Yes, 26.10 . . . there was no option provided for that in the drop down menus.

@rubi1200 Thanks for moving the thread to the proper location, hard to figure out how to hit all of the categories in this new forum structure . . . “pre-release” or “ubuntu-mate” so I went with “mate” . . . . Had posted this in the pre-release 26.10 thread some 12 hours or more back, to wit no reply there, so I shopped it on for some attention in the “mate” category . . . .

You’d entered the Support and Help area and were entering details for a support thread; Ubuntu 26.10 won’t be released until October 2026 and it’ll be in the drop-downs after release, until then it’s not a valid release for support; so cannot be selected in that Support area of this site.

We’re currently working on the release of Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS ISOs, so most teams are focused there. about to release the Ubuntu 26.04.1 ISOs (27 August 2026) so please be patient, especially on a release week! and posting a duplicate post.

My apologies to the list for the list protocol gaffes . . . it seemed like a system not connecting to the internet would be of some concern for the devs . . . ???

I’m assuming the problem will be there waiting until either of the posts gets some attention.

Then you should let the devs know

(which you do not do on some forum but via a proper bug report on the bug tracker)

Very helpful . . . so one of the reasons for posting here, if not the only reason is to garner some idea of where to point the bug report. As mentioned previously I couldn’t just file it from the live session because . . . no internet connection . . . .

Ah, sorry for being so snarky … I didn’t catch that you asked for how to report a bug … I’d start with:

(it is most likely a driver issue)

No worries . . . it’s not that I am asking how to file a bug, but what should it be filed against?? Just like on this forum, the various sub-forums are somewhere . . . TBD?

The link you provided took me to the Launchpad site >Bugs . . . but is this for generic “26.10” or “ubuntu-mate” or something else “internet connectivity”??? Or All of those??

The link I gave above should take you directly to the page for filing bugs against the linux package …

If you want a more manual step, go to:

Then click on the “Report a Bug” link on the top right …

(note that all Ubuntu flavors share the same underlying system pieces, only the desktops (and some defaults) differ for flavors)

OK . . . that looks better . . . so essentially it’s a “ubuntu” problem to report . . . .

Just to see if I could “upgrade” my way out of this situation, I checked the “dailies” today and in both “current” and “pending” they show the same date as what I cloned on the 25th, i.e., the 24th . . . .

So the “dailies” aren’t “daily” for the ubuntu-mate spin of things . . . wanted to see if I could zsync into the problem being fixed . . . so far, not possible.

You’re misunderstanding the term “daily”. It’s a daily attempt to build. Whether or not that is successful determines if the final result (a .iso artifact) gets built. Unfortunately, for the past few days, it has not.
