(Xubuntu) Post your desktop

Inspired by this topic, and hoping to keep this little corner of the forum active, I’m posting my current desktop.

Xubuntu 24.04.3, Arc-dark theme, Papirus icons, all on a pretty old machine, as you can see on image #1

Image #2: Guitarix, to practice my basic skills on electric guitar:

Please share your desktop and tell us a little about it!

Same install as my prior photo on Lubuntu thread, as my Ubuntu install is a multi-desktop install.

Same four monitors turned on (fifth still off & panels mostly configured to only show when mouse pointer is over them, thus MOST panels aren’t visible) with fifth monitor turned off/disabled and not shown… First image shows off wallpapers, pictures of local birds

Same mixture of quick launch items where I want them, clocks showing UTC & local time matching the setup in Lubuntu/LXQt… though actually Lubuntu/LXQt was made to mimic this setup.

This Xubuntu/Xfce setup is less tailored than it used to be, as I could achieve more in Xfce & took advantage of that for some time, alas I’ve since removed some of those additional tweaks so there is less difference for when I login here with in a Xubuntu session, or in a Lubuntu (LXQt) session, or Ubuntu.Desktop (GNOME) session etc.

The setup will NOT be pretty (hopefully the bird pictures make up for that!), but I find it works for me.

This image shows fastfetch output on a quickly opened terminal… There are trails were I moved it around so it’d fit on my main monitor and not cover the panels so I could have them show (using mouse-pointer position for one) but the trails are seen on the saved screenshot!!?? as outside what the monitors actually show (to left of bottom left monitor, and below my far-left-top-row monitor).

(Please Note: I have the mouse pointer over bottom-left side-panel so it’ll show, and you can see it trying to tell me what I’m hovering over; this is why you see Disks or Clementine being shown the way it is)

I use the same WM for both Lubuntu/LXQt & here on Xubuntu/Xfce, ie. xfwm4 which is why window border will look the same (same pills theme used) as Lubuntu, though lack of open/active windows hides that somewhat.

Birds in images; Pied Currawong, Grey Butcherbird, Australian magpies (& spotted doves) & Little Corella (the old short/face.washer on the clothes line is! washed regularly; but put out so the Corella can take off the pegs so it’ll drop on the ground)

A post was split to a new topic: Multi-desktop install - why?

My desktop is based on my MacOS desktop, I have a lot of shortcuts (pacman installed by me, minecraft, arduino IDE). I installed the spanish version of xubuntu because now i’m using translator

I installed plank for the dock and I create my own textures

I thoroughly dislike icons on my desktop and simply add two separate conky displays, one showing just the date and time, the second showing useful system information.

I have the main panel at the bottom of my screen but also use a second vertical panel on the left of the screen set to autohide, which is full of application launchers plus “Action buttons” for shutdown, restart and suspend.

Clean, simple and works brilliantly for me!
