Celebrating 20 Years of Xubuntu

Xubuntu first joined the Ubuntu family as an official flavor in June 2006. Fast-forward 20 years, and Xubuntu is a fan favorite—fast, lightweight, easy-to-use, and easy-to-recommend.

As in years past, Xubuntu celebrates the community with each LTS by inviting the community to craft six wallpapers to be included for the lifetime of the LTS and interim releases. Winners will also receive our coveted Xubuntu stickers by mail.

Finally, we’re also running a community vote to select which past Xubuntu wallpapers to reimagine for 26.04.

Competition Rules

Just like the Ubuntu wallpaper contest, there are a few rules you must follow if you want your work to be considered.

You must own the rights to the image you are submitting, it should be your original work of art.
The full quality image must be 3840x2160px. PNG and WebP formats are preferable.
Please ensure you create a high quality image. Avoid image compression artifacts, pixelation, chromatic aberration and noise. Please do not add any watermarks, names or logos. See also these helpful guidelines from GNOME on screen backgrounds.
The Ubuntu Discourse will automatically compress all posted images. A full resolution submission will be requested of the chosen winners at the conclusion of the competition.
When posting your image, please include a note that you are licensing the image as CC BY-SA 4.0 or CC BY 4.0 . If you do not specify a license we will assume CC BY-SA 4.0 . By entering the competition you are agreeing to these license terms.
We do not currently allow AI generated works to be considered for our wallpaper competitions.

Important Dates

Make sure you put the following dates into your calendar:

February 18th - Submission Window opens.
March 4th - Submission Window closes and Voting Period begins.
~~March 11th - Voting Period closes and the winners are announced!~~
March 22nd - Voting Period closes and the winners are announced!

Congratulations on the 20 years milestone! My fisrt Xubuntu was 8.04.

Something simple.
Colours are colour-blind friendly, from Tol.
Might make you think of grass and sky; hopefully soothing or relaxing.
The horizontal straightness connects conceptually to a tiling window manager; the vertical nuance says that there’s more besides the tiling window manager.
