What cross-platform remote access software do you recommend these days?

Success!

Thank you all for your saintly patience with my ignorance.

I installed Tailscale — it really was easier than I expected — and, with not too much difficulty, managed to get NoMachine working.

I wish that I could mark more than one post as the solution.

Fantastic! So which one do you prefer?

Well, the answer was using both NoMachine and Tailscale. The former simply wouldn’t work without the latter.

I’m busy documenting everything that I need to do to get it working, otherwise I might forget!

@popey — Alan, I’ve looked into Tailscale in quite a bit of detail now, and I have to say that I am impressed!

I’ve been experimenting with Tailscale beyond my original requirements, and even created an exit node for when I’m in an area with no data reception but with a public WiFi available — something that happens to me regularly. (My exit node is my Chromecast . I won’t keep Tailscale on all the time, but only when I need it.)

Thank you for opening my eyes to this product!
