I’m running Ubuntu 25.04 Wayland
Problem Description:
On the 11th/12th I went to shutdown my machine it said it would installed updates during the shutdown process. Everything looked like it went fine and the system shutdown as normal.
The next morning I noticed i had issues when closing some windows, some windows and applications would just freeze and when the “not responding” dialogue shows and i press “force quit” I get kicked of the desktop to the login screen. but if i open a terminal and kill the process, i don’t get kicked.
I’ve mainly noticed it with things like : Nautilus, Transmission and like gnome-settings menus.
This only happens when in a Wayland session, If i go into an Xorg session things are fine.
This were the updates that installed the night before I noticed the problems:

I’m guessing that it has something to do with the 3 gnome-shell updates, but can’t find a way to see any errors, nothing is showing up in journalctrl as far as I can tell.
trying to fix:
I’m going to downgrade the gnome-shell packages and see if that changes things:
gnome-shell
gnome-shell-common
and remove :
gnome-shell-extension-prefs (can’t downgrade this one)
Update
The downgrading didn’t work.
So i’m all outta’ ideas ![]()
If anyone has any ideas or a way to get/show debug messages from gnome-shell in logs i’d be most greatfull.
