Upgrade from Lubuntu 24.04.5 to Lubuntu 26.04.1

Hello,

I just did the upgrade from Lubuntu 24.04.5 to Lubuntu 26.04.1and all went without issues.

It’s the first upgrade I’ve done in years as upgrades in the past for me have sometimes been problematic.

I don’t know what has changed as for the way the upgrade now works.

Something had to change because this time it was easy using the GUI option.

So for anyone wanting to do the upgrade from Lubuntu 24.04.5 LTS version to Lubuntu 26.04.1 LTS go for it.

Just follow all of the prompts which are posted as needed and all should go well.

I know some of the Lubuntu team reads these posts so Thanks to all of you Lubuntu rocks.

Just did another upgrade from Lubuntu 24.04.5 LTS version to Lubuntu 26.04.1 on the Wife’s 13 year old laptop and all went without problems and so far everything appears to work.

Thought I’d pass that along.

Thanks for your post. Could you help me with the upgrade steps?

In thw terminal i wrote

sudo do-release-upgrade -m desktop -f DistUpgradeViewKDE

According lubuntu manual online. But the terminal freezes and not responding.

My laptop: Toshiba M6545, I5, 8 gb RAM, 1 TB HDD

freezes for how long??

I’ve had release-upgrades take much of a day (10-12 hours anyway!) as the process varies a lot based on a number of factors including CPU, RAM, number of packages you have installed (my installs are somewhat bloated so lots), speed of internet (mine is slow) etc.

Sure, release-upgrades shouldn’t take that long for most people, but there is great variation in where we live, our hardware, and what we have added/changed on our installs & more.
