Problem Description:
I just upgraded from 25.10 to 26.04 dev. Upgrade went fine, just a couple of notes:
it didn’t pick up the resolute version of libreoffice right away, so I purged the one installed and picked up the right version for the development version
I chose the desktop icons ng from ubuntu extensions package and not the independent one
still viber doesn’t work, but I picked up the latest appimage that is working fine
the error has to do with: ./Viber: error while loading shared libraries: libxml2.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
bleachbit as root is not working under applications, unless issued from command line:
sudo bleachbit
this is a known issue, which I won’t tamper at the moment and I guess that it has to do with dropping X from gnome and ubuntu
I removed a lot of i386 packages that were left obsolete like vulkan and wayland
just to add a couple of things while tampering with the new ubuntu.
I’m thrilled from the fact that with window list now I can switch the order of tabs! I had a minor issue with window list, tabs vanishing from sight, yet by selecting the option “to appear in all screens” (or similar due to translation), problem seems vanished.
Trying to search for some files under Files, sometimes Files initially were closing without showing any error. Now this seems gone as well.
a minor issue I faced with pitivi I do not think that is worth mentioning, because in less than a couple of days it ways fixed. It had to do with some dependencies.
In the meantime I experimented a little with qt applications and I found out that they do not respect the font change under tweaks: tweaks→fonts→size and there there is a ± toggle which I have set to 1,5. I’m happy with the rest of my system, yet with qt applications this is not the case.
In octave you can change fonts, but they do not cover the entire application. So under home folder I created a .profile file and inside I added the following string:
export QT_FONT_DPI=130
which made me happier with the fonts of qt applications. This is a well known solution to the issue.
I’m writing this here in case someone sees it and implements the change under tweaks to be applied to qt applications as well.
Network manager on boot needs some restarting from time to time, yet we are still under development!
there are a couple of more issues I noticed and I think that they deserve mentioning:
some old applications (under tweaks) loose their background if even Yaru theme is chosen for them. Tweaks is one app and synaptic’s menus are the second. In other words I can see only the words, without being able to see the rest of the window. The title bar remains unaffected.
desktop icons ng from ubuntu package doesn’t show image thumbnails on desktop. I cannot remove it from synaptic and install the gnome equivalent, unless all ubuntu extensions are removed as well. I suppose that this will get fixed when gnome 50 arrives though.
thank you for the input. As far as (1) above is concerned with latest updates got fixed!
Regards!
edit: I do not provide a bug report up to now, because most of the issues mentioned are supposed to get a new version e.g. with the advent of gnome 50. So I’m waiting a little.
for files the problem returned so I created a bug report here:
I have problems with pdf thumbnails at the moment. This happens both in nautilus and desktop icons. I’m not really sure which package to report because I have seen that AppArmor might be one reason. Does anyone else face the same?
I upgraded from 25.10 - afterwards gdm3 seams to be unable start a working session for ubuntu/gnome (dos not launch at all) cinnamon (borked) or plasma (no panels) (xfce weirdly works). Switching to LightDM helps but its still a bit off - everything gnome related loads very slow…
