I haven’t been able to access the old forums for several days now.Are the forums down until it becomes read-only?
I have nothing of importance to deal with there I was just curious.

Ubuntuforums is working just fine for me at the moment. It was a bit slow the other day, but apart from that I’ve not noticed any problem recently.
I notice that your last post on ubuntuforums was 6 days ago. Has there been any change your end since then? Even though you are a well established member, I’ll ask the obvious: are you using the correct URL: Ubuntu Forums ?
Nothing has changed on my end. Two laptops one running Mate 22.04.5 and the other Mate 24.04.1 and my Android phone, all time out when trying to connect to UF. Nothing has changed with my Internet.
Just tried Wi-Fi at another location and no issues so it is indeed an issue on my end.Wired or wi-fi doesn’t matter so it’s specific to my modem and/or provider just
odd that UF is the only site I’m having an issue with.
it is working for me. i just posted in Word associations.
how many different sites do you go to that are working? an error i’ve seen in the past in places i’ve worked is a bad firewall rule slice cutting across a portion of many networks. once i could not get to a site in Finland because their firewall rule blocked every X.X.5.X source. using a new subnet on my end got around it. finally got in contact with their netadmin who told me that rule had been that way for over a year.
The only site I am having issues with is UbuntuForums and it would appear to be specific to my IP address.I disabled ufw and the issue is still there. This started happening last Wednesday and nothing that I’m aware of has changed.Currently have an open ticket with my IP to see what might be the issue.
@coffeecat Both my diagnostic of my modem/gateway and the one run by my IP show that everything is functioning just fine and the “Advanced Security” app hasn’t auto flagged UF and blocked it.
Any possibility that somehow my IP address inadvertently got blocked on UF’s end? It’s the only site out of all the sites I visit that I can’t access,it just times out.
Actually, I get that happening as well: sometimes the site is very slow to load, and sometimes it just times out. But not all the time. Maybe the web application firewall doesn’t like something I’m doing on occasion.
@irihapeti I haven’t been able to access UF at all since last Wednesday on any device in my house except with my phone when using data.
can you try a traceroute to UF?
Yes but interpreting the results is beyond my tech savvy.
Could you move this conversation to the
Support area?
You are off topic[ [Ubuntu Forums down?].
Thank You !
So moved.
@transition team, the only tag that came close to what this is about is General Help. Do you want to add a tag for problems with the old forum? There might be more than a few questions during the actual transition period and for some time after the forum goes read-only.
An interesting thought, although you should have seen some sort of error if this was so. I would need the current public IP address that you were using when you tried to access the forum since there is only a list of your previously used IP addresses in ubuntuforums adminCP. Send me a private message with your current IP address and I will see if somehow it has got into the banned IP address.
I’ve created an “ubuntuforums” tag and assigned it to this thread.
Place for you to chat randomly about the forum.
Thank You
@coffeecat PM has been sent.
For now I can access UF by connecting thru a vpn so I’ll mark this as solved for now.I would still like to know what the problem is though.
Hello @Norm24,
Ubuntu Forums becomes read-only in January 9, 2025 due to moving Forums from
Ubuntu Forums to Ubuntu Discourse.
It’s a controversial change, so if you want to do technical support like on Ubuntu Forums on this Discourse, you’re now welcome to do this. Previously, this Discourse wasn’t a place for technical support until November 21, 2024, which I wasn’t happy for that but I’m happy they decide to change that.
I always want to make my forums like I was able to reboot a Wi-Fi.
(Only a proprietary drivers, because additional drivers are not full supported).
Have a look.
I have no problem with Discourse at all,I kinda like it better than the old forums.
Timing out on my end as well for almost a week now.
I’m not losing sleep over it, just posting a status for information purposes only.
