The Ubuntu Summit this year is in our back yard. The event is a live stream event.
With this in mind I was wondering if UK LoCo gang would like to attend a “Watch the live stream” event? If we organize a place to host the event would you be interested in attending?
The community admins have put out a link for anyone to apply to host a party. “Are you looking to organize a local meetup to celebrate the release of Ubuntu and engage the Ubuntu Summit remotely? Share your idea, let us know what you are aiming for. The Ubuntu team might be able to help you achieve your goals!”
Fellow UK LoCo I am just posting this here to gauge interest, also to discuss how we may organize our own event or even smaller more localized events…
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, either here or in our Matrix room.
At the very least we need to promote the matrix chatroom for live discussion and socialising. I’ve thought about maybe also having a video call active for people to drop into and out of throughout the event to attempt to simulate the hallway track
Im definitely willing and able to meet up in person somewhere in the south of England - I’m around the north Hampshire area, and anywhere within easy train ride is good for me.
This is an excellent idea. I have been periodically pinging out the link to our Matrix room on our social media accounts. Love the idea of the video call open during the summit.
I’m same as you I am in south. South Oxfordshire for me. It’s a shame they didn’t invite members of the UK LoCo to London to watch the event in person while they stream the event to the rest of the world. Definitely would like an in person UK LoCo meetup at some point, that would be cool.
The Matrix Room that I was referring to was the UK LoCo specific one. There is an overarching ubuntu discussion Matrix Room that can be found here ubuntu discussion
My advice would be to use Element as it is developed by the makers of the Matrix platform. To answer your question Canonical do not recommend a client, they leave it up to personal choice.
