The Canonical IS team will be decommissioning Ubuntu Pastebin, as part of a comprehensive infrastructure modernization and migration project.
Service Overview
Ubuntu Pastebin has historically provided a space for short-term exchange of pasted information between parties.
Required Action
If you are linking any content found on the Ubuntu Pastebin, you will need to update the URL as it will be no longer accessible past the decommission date.
Decommission Timing
The Ubuntu Pastebin server will be shutdown at the end of JUNE 2026.
(Previously scheduled for end of MAY)

Am I the only one who is getting annoyed with all of this decommissioning of services without viable replacements? Especially of services that are widely used?

I don’t often complain, but holy moly it would be great to have a longer grace period between announcement and decommission.
I literally found out about Ubuntu Pastebin roughly a few weeks ago. Hearing the decommission date is in less than 8 days from announcement is a total gut punch.
Sad to see it go, especially with no clear alternative.

Are paste.ubuntu.com & pastebin.ubuntu.com the same?? as there are packages in Ubuntu repositories that send data to paste.ubuntu.com
Have bugs been filed & SRU’s on the way for current releases that currently use paste.ubuntu.com ??

Hi, @guiverc
You’ve asked:
That’s a great question. I may be wrong, but I would say that paste.ubuntu.com & pastebin.ubuntu.com are indeed the same thing, for two reasons:
1 - Both URL - paste.ubuntu.com and pastebin.ubuntu.com - show the exact same web page, with the same content, including the logo / title “Ubuntu Pastebin” at the top of the page.
2 - Using the following paste from you (that you’ve included at the end of your post), as an example, we see that the same “identifier” works for both paste.ubuntu.com and pastebin.ubuntu.com and shows the same content:

True, and I agree with you…
But I’m also aware that when Canonical IS decommissioned https://fridge.ubuntu.com/ the posts there were still accessible from https://ubuntu-news.org/ even though fridge editors were no longer able to access the wordpress login which was only available at fridge url.
@aaronprisk only mentions one URL, which if correct could mean the latter is still functional, thus the pastebinit package provided will still function, as they’re using the other URL/name (like ubuntu-news.org still worked when The Fridge was decommissioned; ubuntu-news.org was decommissioned later anyway)

Hey folks, I brought up your concerns to the IS folks and they’re looking into it. The decommissioning timing is likely to be pushed back. I appreciate you bringing it to my attention.
UPDATE: The decommission has been pushed back to the end of June.

It would help to find an archival home for the data if we knew how many objects and how big they are in aggregate. Hosting a read-only archive of it on S3-compatible storage might be cheap and easy, and my employer might offer it if I could tell them the size.
Appreciate the update & transparency regarding the decommission window.
Will there be a replacement service on the roadmap?
If not, at least the community has ample time to find alternatives.
