Ubuntu not showing up as boot option - dual boot with win 10

Ubuntu Version:
Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS

Desktop Environment (if applicable):
KDE Plasma

Problem Description:
Booting up the system I expect to be able to choose between ubuntu and windows, but instead it boots directly into windows.
Checking the uefi boot options there is no “ubuntu” available.

What I’ve Tried:
restarted
disabled fastboot
went into uefi to prioritise ubuntu, but ubuntu does not show up as an option
ran boot-repair

boot-repair info

Suggested repair: ______________________________________________________________

The default repair of the Boot-Repair utility would reinstall the grub-efi of
nvme0n1p6,
using the following options:  nvme0n1p1/boot/efi
Additional repair would be performed: unhide-bootmenu-10s use-standard-efi-file restore-efi-backups

Final advice in case of suggested repair: ______________________________________

Please do not forget to make your UEFI firmware boot on the Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS entry (nvme0n1p1/efi/****/grub****.efi (**** will be updated in the final message) file) !```

Any pointers or advice would be appreciated.

@kaimana-17-12-2025 It’s better to put error logs and code inside code blocks in the reply or topic editor, so they’re easier to read and copy.

With Boot-Repair better to just post link it provides to a pastebin site.

What brand/model system? Some require UEFI setting changes to allow ubuntu entry to work automatically.

Can you boot from UEFI one time boot menu? Same key you used to boot live installer?

You show bitlocker on. If you want it on, you will have to use UEFI one time key to always boot. With bitlocker off, grub will be able see Windows and offer to boot it from grub menu after grub update.

You have an old BIOS boot of Windows in gpt’s protective MBR. That will never be used, and will never work. But will not cause issues unless you attempt to do a BIOS boot.

I am running a LG Gram 17 from I believe 2022.

I used F10 to go into the UEFI and change the boot order to use a live usb. I did not manage to boot into my installed ubuntu.

I do not know anything about bitlocker so far.

Suggested repair: ______________________________________________________________

The default repair of the Boot-Repair utility would reinstall the grub-efi of
nvme0n1p6,
using the following options:  nvme0n1p1/boot/efi
Additional repair would be performed: unhide-bootmenu-10s use-standard-efi-file restore-efi-backups

Final advice in case of suggested repair: ______________________________________

Please do not forget to make your UEFI firmware boot on the Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS entry (nvme0n1p1/efi/****/grub****.efi (**** will be updated in the final message) file) !

Can you boot from UEFI one time boot menu? Same key you used to boot live installer?

If I use F10 while booting I end up with the option “nvme_XYZ” or “windows boot manager”.
Both boot into windows and the “windows boot manager” only shows windows 10 as an option.

edit: I do not know anything about bitlocker and will read up on it.

If I leave the windows boot manager (ESC) it starts up GRUB and I was able to enter my normal ubuntu.
After disabling the windows boot manager in win 10, it then boots directly into windows again.

All HPs seem to have a unique requirement.
You have to go into system settings and boot tab, and change boot order to have Ubuntu first.
If bitlocker is on, then grub cannot see Windows to offer to boot it, but you should always be able to boot either install from UEFI one time boot key.

HP - escape + F9 for UEFI boot menu, F10 for UEFI/bios settings
Power on > Tap F10 > System Configuration > Boot Options > UEFI Boot Order > OS Boot Manager
F5 and F6 keys move the device up or down
F10 to save and exit
